Root Causes of Genocide and Genocide Ideology – Division & Dehumanization (Lessons Learned)

The first event will take place at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Peace School and focus on the factors that led to Rwanda’s historical refugee crises. Topics to be covered include why people were forced to leave during the independence era, what kind of lives refugees lived out of the country, how families managed their affairs, the experience of refugees in different East African nations and how being a refugee affected different age groups (elderly, parents and children). It will also discuss the process of coming back and the lessons for nations around the world, especially in areas dealing with refugee crises.
